Watanabe M. Taniguchi The local structure of an iron meteorite was analyzed using photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) and hard x-rays. The x-ray absorption fine-structure spectrum was obtained for each pixel in the PEEM image. The spectrum provides a wide variety of information, e.g., chemical composition, electronic structure, and lattice structure, in the interface region of the Widmanstätten structure. The shape of the absorption edge and the radial distribution function indicate that the structural phase changes from bodyto face-centered cubic phases as the Ni composition at the interface is increased. The use of PEEM and hard x-rays is an attractive approach for local structure analysis.

Electrochemical properties of iron oxide nanoparticles as an anode for Li-ion batteries
The synthesis of iron oxide nano-particles by direct thermal decomposition was studied. Simultaneous thermal analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed the formation of iron-urea complex, and disclosed iron oxide formation mechanism. Calcination of the iron-urea complex at 200°C and 250°C for 2 hrs. resulted in the formation of maghemite along with hematite as a seco...
متن کاملNovel Anode Catalyst for Direct Methanol Fuel Cells
PtRu catalyst is a promising anodic catalyst for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) but the slow reaction kinetics reduce the performance of DMFCs. Therefore, this study attempts to improve the performance of PtRu catalysts by adding nickel (Ni) and iron (Fe). Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are used to increase the active area of the catalyst and to improve the catalyst performance. Elec...
متن کاملThe effect of increasing of iron concentration on the physical properties of zinc-iron ferrite nanoparticles
In this research, zinc-iron ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized by thermal treatment method. The presence of crystalline phases by X-ray diffraction (XRD) was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), which confirmed the presence of crystalline phases in all nanoparticles. The particle size and morphology of the nanoparticles were obtained using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESE...
متن کاملMetallographic cooling rates of the IIIAB iron meteorites
An improved computer simulation program has been developed and used to re-measure the metallographic cooling rates of the IIIAB irons, the largest iron meteorite chemical group. The formation of this chemical group is attributed to fractional crystallization of a single molten metallic core during solidification. Group IIIAB irons cooling rates vary by a factor of 6 from 56 to 338 C/My. The coo...

Single crystalline zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires have been grown on Si (100) substrates by a vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) process at temperatures in the range 850-950 °C in an inert atmosphere. The VLS-grown ZnO nanowires have been characterized in detail using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron mi...
